How to Fix "Record Not Assigned" or "Wrong Owner" Issues in HubSpot
Seeing a contact, company, deal, or ticket that’s unassigned or assigned to the wrong owner? Here’s how to quickly identify and resolve ownership problems in HubSpot.
What Is a Record Owner in HubSpot?
The record owner (e.g., contact owner, company owner, deal owner) is the HubSpot user responsible for that record. Assigning the correct owner ensures:
- Proper visibility and access
- Task ownership and notifications
- Accurate reporting and workflows
Troubleshooting Steps
Check Current Ownership
How to Check:
- Open the record (contact, deal, etc.)
- Look for the "Owner" field in the left sidebar
- Click the owner name to view or change it (if you have permission)
Assign or Reassign the Record
- How to Manually Assign:
- Open the record
- Click the Owner property
- Select the correct HubSpot user from the dropdown
- Click Save
- To Bulk Assign:

- Go to Contacts, Companies, or Deals
- Select multiple records
- Click Edit > Owner and choose the correct user
